" Mon grand-père s' est exilé en France à la fin de la guerre d' Espagne. Soixante ans après, je retourne dans son village, en Catalogne.

Mon grand-père m' a très peu parlé de ce qu' il a vécu, et les paysans que je rencontre ont peur de se souvenir de la guerre, de la révolution et de la dictature qui a suivi.

J' ai l'impression qu' ils tiennent à préserver, par leur silence, la tranquillité du village. Peut-être y sont-ils contraints par la nécéssité de vivre ensemble."                   

"My grandfather went into exile in France at the end of the Spanish war. Sixty years later I went back to his village in Catalonia.

My grandfather didn't tell me much about what he had gone through and the farmers that I met seemed afraid to remember the war, the revolution and the dictatorship that followed. I felt that they aimed to protect the peace and quiet of the village through their silence. Perhaps they are forced to in order to live side by side."
